Edward Whitethorne – Artist Biography

Troy Whitethorne is a Native American artist from the Navajo Nation whose work blends tradition, modernity, and personal storytelling. With a deep-rooted passion for visual expression, Troy has been painting and creating art for over 40 years, developing a distinctive style that spans multiple mediums, including abstract cubism, still life, charcoal, watercolor, and mixed media. His work often reflects themes of identity, resilience, and the beauty of Indigenous culture.

Troy’s artistic journey has led him to showcase his work in various exhibitions, including SWAIA, Santa Fe Indian Art Market, Prescott Native Show, Heard Museum Indian Showcase, Pasadena Native Collections, Marin County Indian Show, Marin Calif., Dallas Native Show, Denver Native Art Market, Scottsdale Native Festival and Utah Governor Honorable Mention Award etc.  His art has been featured in Absolute Arts, San Juan Record, Native Art Journal, and he has received recognition through awards.

Beyond traditional paintings, Troy expands his creativity into functional art, designing greeting cards, prints, and T-shirts that bring his unique vision to a wider audience. Edward Whitethorne is a highly accomplished Navajo artist with a career spanning over 70 years. Residing in Southern Utah, he has dedicated his life to mastering various artistic mediums, including oil, watercolor, pencil sketches, acrylics, mixed media, and jewelry design. His work reflects a deep connection to his Navajo heritage, blending traditional influences with contemporary expression.

Edward’s artistic journey has taken him across the world, showcasing his work in Paris and throughout Europe alongside his brother, Baje Whitethorne, and Elizabeth Whitethorne Benally. He has exhibited in many of the same esteemed galleries and shows as his son, Troy Whitethorne, earning numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the art world.

Beyond his personal artistry, Edward has been a dedicated educator, teaching in schools and conducting live demonstrations to inspire future generations of artists. His ability to capture emotion, culture, and storytelling through his work has made a lasting impact on both students and art enthusiasts.
